30 Day Knitting Challenge: Day 05

Day 5: How long did it take from the time your learned how to knit, to finish your first project?

I would say probably around two weeks. The first few days were brutal and I had more than one hissy fit trying to get my hands, eyes and brain to coordinate with the needles and yarn. I simply couldn’t grasp the process and got more frustrated than my Mum at parents evening. But once it clicked, it was all go go go! The scarf I started with was made with chunky yarn so didn’t take long, and seeing something take shape quickly was awesome. I was hooked!

Day 4: How did you learn how to knit?

I kind of already covered this in this post. To summarise: gave up smoking, needed something to do with my hands, friend took me yarn shopping. I ended up learning from a video aimed at children which used this rhyme:

In through the front door, go around the back, out through the window and off jumps Jack!

Day 2: What is currently on your needles?

I actually don’t have anything on my knitting needles at the moment, but I think I will soon cast on this cardigan by Susan Crawford Vintage. It will be my first “big” project… eek!

I know this is technically a knitting challenge, but my current project is a crochet dog:

I’ve only done the head so far, but it’s going OK! Ravelry pattern can be found here – http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-adorable-puppy

30 Day Knitting Challenge: Day 01

Day 01: What was your first finished project?

My first ever project was a keyhole scarf, made with some non-descript cheap yarn from a local department store. Made before I understood the importance of not scratching your skin off with acrylic wool, I haven’t actually worn it but it turned out OK. If you look past the mistakes….
